Starting A $1000 Portfolio

I’m starting this blog series that tracks the growth of a $1000 portfolio, well ~$1100 since I already had a $100 portfolio with TD Ameritrade. The goal is to showcase what is possible with the power of persistence and consistency. As well, share how its possible to grow a small portfolio into a larger portfolio.

Below is the current balance and positions in the portfolio.

For this portfolio, I will be contribution only $100 external money each month. In the infancy stages of the portfolio personal input is going to be its largest source of growth. A small portfolio of this size will have a very difficult time growing without the help of external contributions.

In this series, I plan to share the details of the portfolio once a week. Sharing the week’s starting and ending balance, what trades I enter and exits, and the results of the trades. I will also document my thought process as much as I can.

Although this portfolio is small I will handle it as my other portfolios. With all the careful planning and risk management required before entering trades. The goal of this is not to see how lucky I am, but to show how its possible to grow a small portfolio.

Thanks, and I hope you all follow this series.

Week 3/15 – 3/19

Week 3/15 - 3/19 2021 The market finished off the third week of March with, what looks to me as, a continuation to the downside. This does slow down trading, market indecision doesn't mean trader/investor indecision. The plan at the moment is to look for stocks that...

Week 3/8 – 3/12

Week 3/8 - 3/12 2021 The second week of March and the market has given us a green week. At the moment its unclear if this week is just a breather for the down trend or if it a reversal to the upside again. However as trader where there is movement there is an...

Week 3/1 – 3/5

Week 3/1 - 3/5 2021 This week was a brutal week for the portfolio. However, in trading a trader must be willing to take the draw down as much as the gains. Red times in the market makes for opportunities. Surviving until opportunities open is how trader are able to...

Week 2/22 – 2/26

Week 2/22 - 2/26 2021 What a week to end the trading month of February. The first red week! This week the portfolio ended with a balance that is lower than last week. In trading we have to take what the market gives us, unfortunately this week was a loss but the good...

Week 2/15 – 2/19

Week 2/15 - 2/19 2021 This week was a short 4-day trading week, Monday 2/15, was President's Day. The portfolio took its first lost this week but did end the week positive.   [video width="1280" height="720"...

Week 2/8 – 2/12

Week 2/8 - 2/12 2021 This week has been uneventful. I have ran into some issues transferring the initial $1000 to start the portfolio. Error on my part due to using the wrong routing number for my deposit. Uneventful but not wasted.   Portfolio Recap: Account...
